Julien Epaillard and Le Coultre de Muze emerged victorious in the Show Jumping World Cup class in Lyon on November 1, 2026. The French rider delivered a flawless jump-off, securing the win in 38.17 seconds. Germany's Richard Vogel and Cloudio followed closely in 38.20 seconds, while Switzerland's Edouard Schmitz aboard Gamin van’t Naastveldhof claimed third place with a time of 38.31 seconds.
Three Pairs Within 14 Hundredths of a Second
At the second leg of the Western European League, 14 of the 40 starting combinations advanced to the jump-off. Santiago Varela designed the course. Schmitz was the first to dip below 40 seconds, setting a challenging target.
Epaillard seized the lead with a daring tight turn to the double combination and an incredibly fast pace. Vogel, riding after him, narrowly missed the winning time by just three-hundredths of a second.
First Five-Star Grand Prix Victory as a Combination
This marked the first five-star Grand Prix victory for Epaillard and the 15-year-old stallion Le Coultre de Muze as a combination. Epaillard had taken over the ride on the horse from Philippe Rozier in November 2025. At the beginning of their partnership, the stallion had to overcome an injury.
Epaillard had previously won in Lyon in 2022 and secured second place there in both 2023 and 2024. According to the FEI report, he has set his sights on the World Cup Final as his next major objective.
