Jodie Hall McAteer and Hardessa claimed victory in the Grand Prix for the 'Leading Showjumper of the Year' title at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) on October 11, 2026. According to the British magazine Horse & Hound, the British rider secured this title for the second time in four years. The 14-year-old mare is owned by her mother, Mandy.
Five Lead Changes in the Jump-Off
In the first round over the 1.55-meter course designed by Alan Wade and Ben Townley, ten of the 30 combinations went clear. In the jump-off, the lead changed hands five times among the first seven starters.
Guy Williams set a clear round with Kazandor Hero Z. Last year's winner, Trevor Breen, then took the lead with Konrad Obolensky. Olli Fletcher and Hello William were a full second faster. John Whitaker then shaved a hundredth of a second off that time.
Hardessa Pulls Ahead
Jodie Hall McAteer and Hardessa then shaved another second off Whitaker's time. The rider had observed in the rounds before hers that time could be saved, especially on the first few fences.
Twenty-year-old Olivia Sponer also went clear and finished fourth. For her, it was her first start in the international classes at HOYS.
