Tom McEwen and Brookfield Danny De Muze have retaken the lead in the showjumping phase of the GFS Saddles CCI4*-S for eight- and nine-year-old horses at the Agria Blenheim Horse Trials. The pair kicked off the day in the arena on 19 September and delivered a clear round.
Lead changes after showjumping
Overnight leaders Astier Nicholas and Hitchqote Du Coudray had started on a dressage score of 23.5 penalties, but dropped 28 places after three rails down. Bubby Upton and Sancerre De Tiji held on to second place. They sit just 0.1 penalties ahead of Izzy Taylor and Barrington Boy after picking up a single time fault. Another of Upton's rides, Auckland 7, slipped to 31st after two rails and 0.8 time penalties.
Cross-country preview
Sammi Birch and Rosa's Party climbed from seventh to fifth, while Katie Magee and Cushlas Indigo moved up from eighth to sixth. With the top 40 bunched within ten penalties, the cross-country on 20 September will prove decisive. Bubby Upton stressed on 18 September that the showjumping phases are "building blocks" for these promising young horses.
